Pop Overs

Allow me to present one of the most delicious and easy-to-make treats imaginable:

Pop overs! They are not sweet and are usually served as a breakfast food or as a dinner roll of sorts — just eat them with a little butter. They are best when they are fresh out of the oven — I won’t even eat them the next day because they lose their magic by that point. The only downfall to making pop overs is that you need a special pan in order to do so. I found this one at Amazon, but I’m sure you could check Target, Williams and Sonoma, etc as well. And I know what you’re thinking, “do I REALLY need the special pan for this?” Yes. Yes, you do. Because of the way they bake, pop overs literally pop over the pan. So yes, buy the special pan. You will thank me.

Here is the recipe that my mom has had for years.

2 large eggs
1 cup milk
1 cup flour
1/4 teaspoon salt

Preheat the oven to 425F. Mix the milk, flour, and salt. Add one egg at a time and mix. Grease the pan you bake them in with non-stick spray or butter. Fill the 3/4 full and bake for 30 minutes. Makes 6 pop-overs.

Simple, huh?

  • I am ordering one of those pans. SO EASY and my family goes nuts for anything breadlike. It’s my weakness!

Are they larger like a muffin kind of? I picture them being tiny by looking at the picture, but they sound like they are larger when reading the recipe.

  • They’re pretty big. About 4-inches tall. The plate that they’re sitting on in the pic is a full-size dinner plate, if that helps to give you perspective.

But oh, you’re going to LOVE them! They’re so delicious.

  • I had one at a restaurant before, but I had no idea what it was at the time. But I LOVED IT and it looks/sounds very much like this. I can’t wait to try them! You have me inspired to try several things even though I don’t do much in the kitchen, but I think this is the first one I’m going to try.

  • I don’t know what is going on with my comments. I created a WordPress account and so it posted from there the second time. But then I logged out and now I can’t see the last comment I made. Sorry for any confusion, but I don’t even know what is going on, haha.

  • Try them! Believe it or not, a year ago, I had NO IDEA how to cook or bake. I had no interest, I wasn’t good at it, and then I started teaching myself a few things and here I am. :)
